Feedback Time

on asking the right questions

From the top:

  • Welcome back, friends. There’s no Bitcoin in today’s issue, but there is a good old-fashioned survey!

  • Plus, a few other thoughts.

  • Meme theme: Parks and Rec

Happy Mother’s Day to the mothers. See you out there.

You’re being surveyed.

Whether you’ve been here for a long time (can’t be more than 10 weeks), or you’re just joining, I think it’s a good time for some feedback.

I created a very short survey. I think it’ll be fun, it’s a break from normal newsletter stuff, and there’s no one at the end of it to say “pencils down.”

Below you’ll still find a list of things I’ve been into lately and a short reflection from this week.

What makes an artist

credit: created by @gunkou in Midjourney

An artist shares their art. Typically this starts with their friends and family. The initial threshold - resistance - is perceived embarrassment or risk, but eventually they warm to being unafraid of their reaction, or they stop sharing. Importantly, an artist needs to send their art to their family and friends and evolve to send their art into the world despite it going to their friends and family.

They need them, but they have gained confidence enough in their sharing with them that allows them not to hang onto any embarrassment, only genuine curiosity, as to what they think about their art.

The same is true with a writer. A good writer shares their work, unpolished, or at least early on, with their friends and family.

A writer calls themselves a writer. An artist calls themselves an artist.

Nothing proves this true more than writing or creating consistently.

Start before you’re ready. Don’t prepare. Begin.

Steven Pressfield

I’m on a Steven Pressfield kick.

It’s only on us to put forward what stirs in us and it needs to be shared with the world. That might be an armchair opinion on why Lebron is better than Kobe, a new way of practicing medicine, or a particular way that you parent your kid.

We have conviction around… and begin.

Stuff I’ve Been Into

Readies

I read this thread 2 minutes before I put it here. It was that good.

It’s bad theatre as well as bad living.”

Watching

No idea how I got here, but I found myself recently watching footage of the Mount St. Helen’s eruption. Any natural disaster that upends people’s sick time, an office’s vacation policy, or an entire school system, is fascinating. This is a unique one. Plus there’s also something about old news reels.

Cool thing to check out

The internet of full of free ways to do things and so many of them are free. I get jazzed about them I’ve been using Cloud Convert to convert different image types. Again, for free.

Doing

We had Greta’s 1st birthday party yesterday. It was a gift of gifts. Happy birthday, Greta.

Welp, have a great week. Thanks for reading.
